HOW TO SELECT CUTTING TIPS AND OPERATING PARAMETERS FOR CHEM-O-LENE

TIP SELECTIONS: STEP 1

  1. Determine the manufacturer and model number of the cutting torches and/or cutting attachments being used.
  2. Determine the thicknesses of steel to be cut.
  3. It is also desirable to obtain the tip style, size and tip seating that is currently being used to serve as a cross reference during tip selection.
  4. Noting the manufacturer and model number of the cutting torch, select a tip manufacturer and tip designation for the torch. The National Torch Tip Catalog is an excellent reference for this selection step. We can provide this information to you.
  5. On Chart B below, select the tip size from the proper column for the thickness of steel to be cut.

OPERATING PARAMETERS: STEP 2

  1. Chart A below shows pressure regulator settings, fuel and oxygen flow ranges, and cutting speeds for the thickness of material being cut.

GENERAL

  1. For special applications, such as heating, gouging, weld washing, flame hardening, brazing, etc., obtain information in step 1 above and then call your Chem-O-Lene Gas representative for further instructions.
  2. Flowmeter panels are available to conduct in-depth test programs for comparing fuel gases.
